An architect, author, and climate activist, Mina Hasman champions sustainability and well-being as core values in the built environment. As a practice leader of SOM’s Sustainable Engineering Studio, she focuses on long-term vision and strategy for achieving excellence in practice. Furthermore, as the chair of SOM’s Climate Action Group, Mina oversees the firm’s progress on climate action as it relates to its global business operations and projects.

Mina is engaged in a wide variety of projects in Europe, the UK, Asia and the Middle East, bringing a deep understanding of the implications for sustainable and equitable design in different climatic, social and regulatory contexts. A recognised expert in her field, she is the elected UK Construction Industry Council’s Climate Change Committee Chair and Commonwealth Association of Architects’ Regional Vice President for Europe. She also serves on the RIBA Council and the UNEP/GlobalABC COP Taskforce. Mina teaches at academic institutions including The Bartlett (UCL), the Architectural Association, and the Manchester School of Architecture.

To design for the future is to build with intentionality today—where every choice honors the Earth, empowers communities, and creates a lasting legacy of resilience and hope.

Using her work as part of the transdisciplinary Climate Framework Initiative, Mina helped the RIBA to define its Mandatory Competence Requirements for climate literacy. She authored the RIBA Climate Guide to equip built environment professionals with knowledge and guidance to mitigate the impacts of climate change.

Recognizing her leadership in sustainable design and climate advocacy, TIME Magazine included Mina on its list of top 100 Climate Leaders in 2023. For her contribution to the advancement of the built environment industry and academia, she received an honorary doctorate from the University College of Estate Management. Mina continues to shape the future of climate advocacy through her involvement with awards including the RIBA’s Stirling Prize and Silver Medal, and the CAA Awards.
