Collaborating with leading museums and cultural venues, we showcase the limitless possibilities of design.

Exploring the future of art and architecture

Architects, engineers, and artists share common ground: a practice defined by inquiry and experimentation. By collaborating across disciplines, we can realize works of art and architecture that challenge convention. SOM frequently collaborates with museums and cultural venues around the world to present this work. Pulling back the curtain on the design process, these exhibitions and installations reveal the often unexpected results of collaboration.

A vision for life beyond Earth

In 2023 Bio-Block™ Spiral opened to the public for the fifth edition of the Chicago Architecture Biennial. Constructed out of Bio-Blocks—an algae-based concrete alternative developed in partnership with Prometheus Materials—the installation offers a model for carbon-neutral construction.

New methods for timber construction

Part of the European Cultural Centre’s 6th Edition of “Time Space Existence” in Venice, the installation allows visitors to experience a self-balancing vault structure created by applying new technology to traditional construction methods.
