SOM Sustainability Director Mina Hasman joined Talk to Al Jazeera to discuss how architects and urban designers can help cities adapt to a rapidly warming climate.

Talk to Al Jazeera is Al Jazeera’s long-form interview series, featuring in-depth conversations with influential voices from across politics, business, science, culture, and the arts.

Drawing on SOM’s research and global practice, Hasman explores the need to embrace regenerative design strategies that strengthen resilience while enhancing quality of life. Throughout the conversation, she discusses how the built environment can respond to the interconnected challenges of extreme heat, biodiversity loss, and decarbonization through design that works in partnership with natural systems.

Referencing projects such as Urban Sequoia and SOM’s broader work in resilience and performance-driven design, Hasman emphasizes the critical role the built environment can play in helping communities adapt to a changing climate while accelerating the transition to a more regenerative future.
