Last week, SOM Design Partner Kent Jackson spoke at the inaugural MARKA London conference at the Design Museum about realizing a more sustainable, resilient built environment through architecture.
In “Designing the Future” Kent spoke with former editor-in-chief of Wallpaper* Tony Chambers on how SOM is rethinking the limits of how, what, and where we design.
The pair discussed the motivation behind SOM projects, including Urban Sequoia, a design concept that would allow buildings and their urban surroundings to absorb carbon at an unprecedented scale; and Moon Village, a collaboration with the European Space Agency for long-term human settlements on the Moon.
MARKA’s first London conference brought the design, architecture, culture, and hospitality industries together to share perspectives and discuss innovative ideas.
Kent joined a line-up of high-profile, influential speakers including Es Devlin, Harry Handelsman, Shayne Brady, Alfhild Külper, Sebastian Conran, Jeremy King, and Dylan Jones.
