How can a university building reflect the creative energy of the students and faculty who use it?
Completed in 2013, the University Center has become both the "heart" of The New School's distributed campus, and an architectural icon for New York's Greenwich Village. The building was designed by SOM to foster collaboration, with interactive zones dispersed throughout the building and clustered around a uniquely spacious stair system. Five years after its opening, we returned to the project to hear perspectives on how the University Center has impacted the New School's educational mission, as well as the daily lives of students who study and socialize within its walls.
This video features interviews with members of The New School community alongside new footage documenting this vibrant campus hub.
