Jonathan Gann grew up with a broad set of interests, from math and science to art and history, and in architecture, he found a career that unites them all. As SOM’s East Coast Practice Leader, Jonathan manages projects across a broad range of cities and scales, from commercial development in New York to residential buildings in Florida. He excels at navigating the complex requirements of large-scale construction, and in building consensus among developers, communities, and local municipalities to create a resilient future for coastal cities.
Jonathan is SOM’s leading expert on development in the Southeastern United States, where his work is helping to revitalize underused sites and bring density to transit centers in cities from Atlanta to West Palm Beach, Florida. Among his most notable work is the adaptive reuse of the James A. Farley Post Office, a historic Beaux-Arts building next to New York’s Penn Station, into a mixed-use destination with offices, retail, and a new transit hub that has transformed the vitality of Midtown West.
Every project presents an opportunity to bring value to a community. As architects, that is the centerpiece of everything we do—whether we’re creating a more welcoming, well-connected downtown or designing resilient infrastructure for the long run.
