Designed by SOM, a new mixed-use development in Taipei City introduces a new focal point for a burgeoning cultural district. Prominently located next to the Taipei Music Center, the Taiwan Power Nangang Development will integrate lushly planted public spaces, retail, and efficient, open-plan offices with exceptional views.
SOM’s design responds to the site and climate, with a focus on enhancing human health and well-being. Inspired by the terraced landscape of Taiwan’s tea plantations, the tower features planted balconies that offer a sense of connection to nature. The high-performance enclosure allows for natural ventilation, and the cantilevered balconies are strategically placed to shade the interiors.

“The Taiwan Power Nangang Development seeks to further energize a vibrant district centered on music and culture,” said Design Partner Michael Duncan. “In addition to new public spaces for all visitors to enjoy, we’ve designed a workplace that prioritizes health and wellness through natural ventilation and garden terraces—qualities that are uncommon for high-rise buildings in Taipei.”
