On September 20th, 2018, SOM Director Silas Chiow and architectural associate Weiqi Wang presented at the Architectural Expression and Curtainwall Innovation Conference. The event was co-organized by the Shanghai chapter of the AIA and the Architectural Society of Shanghai China.

Silas Chiow, Director of SOM's China office, has been elected as vice president of the Shanghai Chapter of the American Institute of Architects (AIA Shanghai), effective in 2018. In 2019, Chiow, a co-founder of the chapter, will ascend to the role president.
In July, 2017, SOM's Shanghai office hosted a group of visiting architects as part of an exchange program organized by the Japan Institute of Architects and AIA Shanghai. SOM's Silas Chiow led participants on a tour of three projects designed by the firm.
The Vertical Cities conference explores how innovative high-rise design can provide a sustainable solution for high-density cities. This year's edition, which takes place in Hong Kong from March 7th to 10th, brings perspectives from SOM leaders and spotlights the firm's influential work in China.
