The Pavilion at Little Lake at the University of California, Merced; Shanghai Old Town Master Plan; and Chengdu Tianfu International Airport City have each been honored with 2019 AIA California Council Design Awards. The esteemed program recognizes excellence across architecture and urban design.
A jury of professional sustainability experts have awarded SOM with a 2019 Green Good Design Award for the Chengdu Tianfu International Airport City Master Plan. The award program is organized by The European Centre for Architecture Art Design and Urban Studies, and The Chicago Athenaeum.
Chengdu Tianfu International Airport City was named one of the three design projects to receive a 2018 "AllSpark Award" during a celebration in January 2019. SOM's design calls for transforming agricultural land into a development that prioritizes sustainability, urban livability, and economic opportunity.
This year's Spark Awards jury recognized three SOM projects at radically diverse scales: a freestanding sculptural pavilion, an exhibition on art, architecture, and engineering, and a comprehensive plan for a Chinese city designed to accommodate two million residents.
