In November of 2019, Associate Director Rupa Garai presented during the Indian Association of Structural Engineering's (IAStructE) International Seminar in New Delhi. The conference addressed how performance based design can create more resilient structures.
Poly International Plaza has received a 2018 A&D Trophy Award from Perspective magazine. Formerly known as The Perspective Awards, the competition celebrates excellence in architecture, interior design, and product design across the Asia-Pacific region and beyond.
The Chicago chapter of the American Institute of Architects (AIA) honored three SOM projects with three Design Excellence Awards. The award winners were announced at the 63rd annual Designight ceremony at the Navy Pier Aon Grand Ballroom on October 26th, 2018.
Poly International Plaza has received an Award of Merit in Azure Publishing's eighth annual AZ Awards for Design Excellence. The multi-tower project in Beijing won in the Commercial/Institutional Architecture (over 1,000 square meters) category.
At the 2017-2018 China Real Estate Design Awards, SOM received three awards for three projects. Poly International Plaza received the Gold Award, the program's highest honor, with China World Trade Center 3B and Ningbo Bank of China Headquarters receiving Merit Awards.
Three SOM-designed projects are finalists in the 2018 Tall + Urban Innovation Conference Awards in Chicago. At the event, presented by the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat (CTBUH), the design teams behind each competing project will present their work to a jury for award selection. Additionally, William F. Baker will chair the "Best Tall Building, Middle East & Africa" session.
At the beginning of each year, the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat (CTBUH) releases a report examining every building measuring 200 meters or taller completed during the previous year. The 2017 CTBUH Year in Review features five SOM projects.
Poly International Plaza in Beijing and the India Basin project in San Francisco won Gold and Bronze awards, respectively, in the Spaces Design category of the 11th Annual Spark Awards. The criteria for selecting winners includes inventiveness, durability, and expressiveness.
On September 15th, Ingedia Sanchez will speak at the 2017 AIA Women's Summit in Washington, D.C. An architect based in SOM's Chicago office, Sanchez has led the technical designs for numerous tall and supertall towers around the world.
