On August 17th, 2017, Luke Leung will speak at Energy Exchange, an annual event hosted by the U.S. Department of Energy as a part of the Federal Energy Management Program. Leung will lead the closing plenary session, speaking on the conference theme of "Connect, Collaborate, Conserve."
On April 9th, 2016, SOM Director Eric Tomich will speak at the Glass Performance Days China Conference in Shanghai. Tomich will open this edition of the international industry conference with a talk on the design of SOM's Pearl River Tower in Guangzhou.
SOM Technical Director Nicholas Holt will give a keynote address at the U.S. Department of Energy’s Envelope Stakeholder Workshop on May 18, 2015. “A Return to Performance" proposes that the next generation of buildings will achieve high environmental performance, by integrating innovative technology with responses to site and climate inspired by vernacular traditions.
SOM has won two awards from the Structural Engineers Association of Northern California. Pearl River Tower and Timber Tower/Fargo Block 9 earned honors in sustainable design and research.

The Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat (CTBUH) has published a case study on SOM's Pearl River Tower. The story, which focuses on the 71-story building's high-performance design, appears in the July issue of the CTBUH Journal.
Several projects by SOM have been recognized by the 2014 Green GOOD DESIGN Awards. The awards program promotes public awareness of the world's most important examples of sustainable design.
SOM has received four awards from the Architectural Engineering Institute. Pearl River Tower, Tianjin Global Financial Center, and Zhengzhou Greenland Plaza all won Awards of Excellence. The Pearl River Tower also won a Most Innovative Project Award.
