
Aaron Mazeika

Aaron Mazeika is a Director of Structural Engineering in the Chicago office. Licensed in both engineering and architecture, Aaron Mazeika aims to bring the architectural aspirations of projects to life through the carefully considered integration of innovative and efficient structural systems.
With a diverse background that includes post-graduate experience teaching in China, Mazeika has led SOM’s structural practice in implementing innovative structural systems and successfully expanding the groups’ presence in the China market. He has overseen the structural design of more than 30 high-rise towers in China, including the New Poly Plaza in Beijing, which features the world’s largest cable-net supported glass facade and an award-winning seismic isolation mechanism known as the Rocker; the Greenland Suzhou International Center; and China World Trade Center Phase 3B. Outside the China market, Mazeika led the structural design of the Al Hamra Tower in Kuwait City—one of the Middle East’s major landmark projects—and 800 West Fulton Market, a new office building in Chicago featuring a structurally expressed optimal bracing system. Current projects include Greenland Nanjing Pukou Supertall, and Greenland Xixian Silk Road International Center.
Mazeika actively lectures and participates in studio teaching at academic institutions around the world. He is a licensed structural engineer in Illinois, Arizona and California, and a licensed professional engineer in Illinois, Arizona, California, Hawaii, Michigan, Minnesota, New York, South Dakota, Tennessee, and Wisconsin. Mazeika is also a chartered member of the Institute of Structural Engineers in the U.K., and a licensed architect in California.
