A+U Magazine Features SOM’s Revitalization of New York’s Midtown West

For the past several decades, we’ve worked across a range of scales and typologies to transform New York City’s Midtown West into a more connected, pedestrian-oriented environment. Today, we are celebrating this work in the July issue of a+u: Architecture and Urbanism Magazine, which explores how—even in a city like New York, where projects are executed on a grand scaledesigning spaces to walk, rest, work, and play centers on the human experience.

Nearly 50 pages of the magazine highlight our role in the revitalization of Midtown West, featuring several projects and an essay authored by City Design Practice Leader Keith O’Connor. From the greater reimagining of Pennsylvania Station to the transformation of the James A. Farley Building into Moynihan Train Hall and extending through Manhattan West to the High Line, these efforts preserve the fabric of the city while planning for its future.
