SOM’s master plan for KL Metropolis is both visionary and viable, outlining design principles in support of an ambitious effort to create one of Southeast Asia’s most iconic developments. Currently an undeveloped green field located seven kilometers west of Kuala Lumpur’s central business district, the development will seamlessly integrate a vibrant mix of uses. The master plan provides a clear vision for the site’s potential as a civic and cultural destination.

SOM’s master plan calls for residential, commercial, office, hotel, cultural, and civic buildings. A multilevel open space and a tower that will rise more than 100 stories are among the key features of the scheme. Sustainable design concepts include climate-sensitive building strategies, green roofs, and a public transportation network. SOM considered a number of factors in designing the plan, such as phased implementation, high-performance architecture, and contextual designs that respect the natural landscape.
