The creation of the Cedar Creek Waterway Master Plan for downtown Abilene, Texas, is an early step in realizing the voter-supported bond initiative to improve the area between South 11th and North 10th streets.

Starting with the Abilene Downtown Central Park — which will host a variety of areas for recreation and respite — the Cedar Creek Waterway plan will deliver new parks and destinations, all linked by a trail system. This transformative initiative will celebrate the hidden but valuable resource that is the waterway. Residents have had a rather limited relationship with the creek in spite of its proximity up until now. With this master plan in place, Cedar creek is positioned to be celebrated as a natural treasure through the establishment of recreation areas, trails, and connections to the water while also fortifying and protecting its ecological value.
