Tannar Whitney

AIA, LEED AP

Principal

Los Angeles

With significant expertise delivering complex projects across a range of typologies, Tannar Whitney is a leader in SOM’s higher education, adaptive reuse, and large-scale mixed-use projects out of the Los Angeles studio. His skill in leading projects from early concept through delivery ensures the design intent is preserved throughout the lifespan of a project and cultivates lasting partnerships with our clients. He has been a trusted collaborator to Loyola Marymount University for more than a decade, managing multiple projects across the campus. Now, he’s leading SOM’s second and third projects with the University of California, Santa Barbara.

His agility managing the diverse needs of project stakeholders is also evident in his recent leadership of projects like the award-winning new, modernist bus shelters across Los Angeles and—earlier in his career—the expansion of JFK International Airport Terminal 4 and the Mount Sinai Hess Center. His expertise extends to transformative adaptive reuse and interior environments, where he has reimagined historic structures and corporate campuses into dynamic, flexible workplaces, as well as complex commercial and mixed-use developments that shape urban districts.
