Students Participate in Immersive Summer Internship Worldwide

More than 50 college students joined us in studios worldwide from Washington, D.C. to Dubai for our Summer Internship program filled with talks, tours, mentorship, and hands-on design experience.

Throughout the summer, our practice leaders and specialists introduced our interns to the wide breadth of SOM’s portfolio and the technical knowledge required to design a building. They learned about all aspects of design from products to facades, computational technology, and potential career paths and applied that knowledge hands-on across our studios.

Sketching days challenged our interns to notice the small details in a design. The annual “Big Build” challenge in New York grouped interns together to test the strength of carefully constructed models. And site visits—from ABCS Temple and the Billie Jean King Library in California to 220 North Ada in Chicago, the Hirshhorn Museum in D.C., and Penn Station in New York—offered immersive learning experiences for future designers.

We offer a variety of programs for students from Year One to our Global Winter Shadowship. Stay tuned to our Careers page for opportunities.
