SOM has been appointed to lead the assessment and design of the T3A West Terminal at King Abdulaziz International Airport (KAIA) in Jeddah.

As the original designers of the iconic Hajj Terminal, completed in 1981, our firm returns to a landmark that has profoundly influenced global airport design. The Hajj Terminal remains one of SOM’s most important projects in the Middle East, continuing to serve as a vital gateway for millions of pilgrims each year. This new commission presents an opportunity to build on that legacy, reimagining the West Terminal to meet the future needs of Hajj, Umrah, and international travel—respecting the past while embracing the future.

SOM Partners Thomas Behr and Kent Jackson participated in a ceremonial contract signing with joint-venture partner Pace in Jeddah. The signing was witnessed by Eng. Mazen Johar, Chief Executive Officer of Jeddah Airports. The agreement formalizes SOM and Pace’s role in providing design services for the terminal, a project that aims to enhance passenger capacity and elevate services for pilgrims in alignment with Saudi Vision 2030.
