Three SOM Projects Win NYCxDESIGN Awards

With Preservation Month upon us, we look back at 9 West 57th Street, which defied all conventions of a skyscraper upon its completion in 1974. Some 50 years later, we returned to reintroduce this bold modernist icon as a fresh, contemporary landmark for the 21st-century workplace in a revitalization effort that won an NYCxDESIGN award from Interior Design magazine

The iconic Lever House, another of our revived original designs, was also recognized with an award for The Lever Club, a transformed indoor-outdoor hospitality suite with interiors designed by Marmol Radziner.

Now in its 10th year, the NYCxDESIGN award program yielded not one, but three awards for SOM, including our work with Gensler on the Robert A. Iger Building—The Walt Disney Company’s New York City Headquarters—which won for Creative Office and was named a finalist in “NYC’s Shining Moment,” a category that showcases projects that are “quintessentially New York.”
