New York City officials broke ground on the new facility for the New York City Public Health Laboratory yesterday in Harlem. The New York City Economic Development Corporation is managing the construction of the new, SOM-designed building, and the city’s Department of Health and Mental Hygiene will move in when construction is completed in 2026. When the laboratory opens, it will enhance the department’s ability to protect and promote the health of all New Yorkers and keep the city at the forefront of disease response and investigation.
