On Tuesday, March 13th, SOM Associate Neil Katz will speak at the Facade Tectonics 2018 World Congress in Los Angeles. The event aims to improve building performance and the urban habitat through the art, science, and technology of facades. It brings together industry and academic leaders who have a deep knowledge of the building facade as an integral factor in design.
At a session titled “Origami-Inspired Facade Design: Parametric Studies for Architectural and Structural Efficiency,” Katz will speak about using computational design in architecture. In his work at SOM, Katz uses this methodology to develop geometry as an avenue for analyzing and creating responses to project goals, including environmental and sustainability targets.
