The Dallas Architecture Forum Recognizes Moody Performance Hall

The Dallas Architecture Forum has honored the SOM-designed Moody Performance Hall as one of the 25 most meaningful architectural projects completed in North Texas from the past 25 years as part of its “Design Recognition: Looking Back Looking Forward!”

Conceived as a “village for the arts,” Moody Performance Hall is home to dozens of theater, music, and dance companies. Beyond its striking exterior, the interior is home to state-of-the-art acoustics. The strategic placement of oak panels not only elevates the ambiance but also enhances the hall’s acoustics, while suspended white oak reflectors and custom wool serge banners offer dynamic sound adjustments.

The design also tackles urban noise challenges, employing innovative solutions like floating concrete slabs to isolate vibrations from the cityscape. Articulated board-formed concrete walls serve a dual purpose, adding a distinctive visual flair and dispersing sound waves for optimal acoustics.
