Mina Hasman to Present at COP30 in Belém, Brazil

Building on SOM’s continued engagement at previous editions of the United Nations Climate Change Conference, Sustainability Director Mina Hasman will speak at COP30 in Belém, Brazil. Through a series of panel discussions, she will highlight how SOM is advancing a zero-carbon and human-centric approach to design, demonstrating how the built environment can serve both people and the planet.

On November 11, Hasman will join a panel in the Danish Pavilion hosted by Kompas VC and Velux, exploring new approaches to residential and housing design that prioritize social value and well-being.

Later that day, she will participate in a second panel in the Finnish Pavilion with the City CDR Initiative, discussing the transformative concept of “Carbon Sink Cities.” This conversation will examine how urban environments can evolve from being sources of emissions to active contributors to carbon removal, resilience, and climate innovation. The discussion follows SOM’s recent event in our New York studio during Climate Week NYC 2025, where projects such as The New York Climate Exchange and Urban Sequoia showcased new possibilities for buildings to function as carbon sinks.

Based in SOM’s London studio, Hasman is a recognized leader in sustainable design and climate advocacy. As a practice leader of SOM’s Sustainable Engineering Studio, she focuses on long-term vision and strategy for achieving excellence in practice. Furthermore, as the chair of SOM’s Climate Action Group, she oversees the firm’s progress on climate action as it relates to its global business operations and projects.
