Building on SOM’s continued engagement at previous editions of the United Nations climate change conference, Conference of the Parties (COP), Sustainability Director Mina Hasman will present multiple sessions at COP30 in Belém, Brazil. Through a series of presentations and panel discussions, she will highlight how SOM is advancing a zero-carbon and human-centric approach to design, demonstrating how the built environment can serve both people and the planet.
Join Hasman for the following events, including:
- November 11, 11 a.m. – Noon
Finnish Pavilion
Hosted by the City CDR Initiative, Hasman will discuss the transformative concept of “Carbon Sink Cities.” This session will explore how urban environments can evolve from sources of emissions into active contributors to carbon removal, resilience, and climate innovation. The discussion follows SOM’s recent event in our New York studio during Climate Week NYC 2025, where projects such as The New York Climate Exchange and Urban Sequoia showcased new possibilities for buildings to function as carbon sinks. - November 11, Noon – 12:50 p.m.
Danish Pavilion
Hasman will join a panel hosted by Kompas VC and Velux in the Danish Pavilion, exploring innovative approaches to residential and housing design that prioritize social value and well-being. - November 14, 1:30 – 3 p.m.
CDR Pavilion
Participating in a session with the CityCDR and representatives from national governments, Hasman will join the discussion on accelerating carbon removal strategies within urban systems. - November 14, 2:20 – 3 p.m.
Assembléia Paraense, Belém
Hasman will contribute to the World Climate Summit’s panel on “Nature-Positive Design and Materials at Scale,” exploring how innovation can transform climate adaptation into measurable social, environmental, and financial value. - November 15, 11 a.m. – Noon
Buildings Pavilion
As part of a session hosted by the Global Alliance for Buildings and Construction, Hasman will discuss how to enable the implementation of global cooling pledges, advancing sustainable and resilient building solutions in a warming world. - November 17
Buildings Pavilion
Joining virtually, Hasman will speak on “Arming Policymakers and Practitioners with the Tools for Resilient, Green, and Sustainable Buildings.” She will highlight resources from RIBA, UKNZCBS, and SOM’s own research initiatives, showcasing how evidence-based tools and climate literacy can drive systemic change in the built environment.
Based in SOM’s London studio, Hasman is a recognized leader in sustainable design and climate advocacy. As a practice leader of SOM’s Sustainable Engineering Studio, she focuses on long-term vision and strategy for achieving excellence in practice.
