LSC Roundtable at The New School Brings Together Academics and Architects

On Saturday, June 22nd, Design Partner Colin Koop and Associate Director Meredith Bostwick-Lorenzo Eiroa hosted an event with the Learning Spaces Collaboratory (LSC) at The New School, in New York City. The LSC Roundtable brings together academics and architects to discuss experiences planning spaces for learning, and to explore questions that should drive planning into the future. The event, titled “A Permeable Ecosystem of Space – Serving All Students,” centered on themes of inclusive design, learning ecosystems, and permeability.

To kick off the event, Colin Koop led a tour of the SOM-designed University Center, alongside Lia Gartner, The New School’s Vice President for Buildings. Following the tour, participating firms shared stories about recent projects in which they and their clients identified and tackled hard questions. Meredith Bostwick-Lorenzo Eiroa presented a case study on how the creation of inclusive ecosystems served as a driving force behind the design of The Milstein Center at Barnard College. The tour and presentations informed breakout group discussions on how the future of campus planning might be driven by concepts of “permeability.”
