Pertamina, Indonesia’s state-owned oil company has started construction of what will become the country’s largest building. Topping out at 99-stories, or 530 meters (1739ft) tall, the Pertamina Energy Tower has been designed by SOM and resides on a 5.7 hectares. Aside from its massive tower, the Pertamina development will also be home to a 5,000 person mosque, a performing arts center, parade grounds and its very own sunken garden. But beyond its various buildings and its and gently tapered solar shaded facade the Pertamina Tower is turning heads for its efficiency and green design. Central to the headquarters efficiency is its integrated “wind funnel” that will generate energy on the back of prevailing wind currents.
