On Friday, March 3rd, SOM Associate Gunnar Hand will participate in AIA|LA’s roundtable discussion on the recently approved Transit Oriented Communities Affordable Housing Incentive Program. Held at Los Angeles City Hall, the discussion will focus on the design and development of housing and mixed-use projects near the city’s major transit stops. The incentive program applies specifically to developments that commit to providing a greater amount of affordable housing than required. The session will provide a chance to provide direct feedback to staff in the City Planning Department who are working on the initiative.
Gunnar will contribute insights from SOM’s City Design Practice and its various mixed-use, transit-oriented planning, and development projects across the region, including ongoing research on the role of transit in the creation of regenerative cities. SOM’s RegenCities research initiative has focused on issues of equity, access to opportunity, resilience, and sustainability, all of which will support the City’s thinking on the design of mixed-income communities.
