The International Interior Design Association (IIDA) has awarded the Chinatown Branch Library an Honorable Mention in this year’s Library Interior Design Awards. The project was recognized in the “On the Boards” category.
SOM designed the Chinatown Branch Library in conjunction with Wight & Co. When finished, it will create a new civic, educational, and social hub for Chicago’s Chinatown neighborhood, providing a needed public gathering place geared toward inclusive community activities and driven by technology-based learning. The library is scheduled to break ground this summer.
The IIDA holds the Library Interior Design Awards competition biennially and chooses winning projects from a large pool of international designs. Award winners demonstrate excellence in aesthetics, design, creativity, function, and satisfaction of the client’s objectives.
