AIA, LEED® AP, BD+C, Managing Partner
Thomas Behr is a Managing Partner in SOM's London office, having relocated from New York in 2016 to take up the role. He joined the firm in 2000 as an architectural designer before assuming the position of project manager in 2004. During this time, Behr has worked on a diverse range of international projects including master plans, commercial buildings, mixed-use developments, educational, sports, and hospitality schemes in the United States, Europe and the Middle East.
Behr continually promotes SOM’s longstanding tradition of sustainable design in architecture and planning. He believes that architects have a social, environmental, and economic responsibility. Understanding these responsibilities allows him to unlock the design opportunities available to the designer, developer, and client to increase the true value of a project.
After predominantly working on European projects in his early years at SOM, Behr shifted his focus to the Middle East. He is overseeing and coordinating SOM’s overall efforts in the region, encompassing a range of project types including educational, civic, cultural, residential, hospitality, commercial, urban planning, and mixed-use developments. Behr is also the general manager of the Abu Dhabi office.
