Peter Lefkovits approaches design through the integration of architecture, structure, and environmental design. A leader in both SOM’s Aviation and South Asia practices, his diverse portfolio spans airport terminals, mixed-use developments, residential and hospitality projects, and commercial office buildings. Highly attuned to local context, Peter’s designs are shaped by the culture, climate and people where he works—resulting in solutions that respond directly and contribute meaningfully to their locale.

With deep expertise in the aviation sector, he has led the design and implementation of several of SOM’s award-winning airport terminals. Kempegowda International Airport Terminal 2 in Bengaluru—the world’s largest LEED Platinum pre-certified airport project—has become a leading example of experiential and sustainable airport design. In Kansas City, he directed the design of the new terminal at Kansas City International Airportpraised by the U.S. Secretary of Transportation as one of the most successfully-delivered megaprojects in the country and developed through an extensive community engagement process to create a place that is inclusive and accessible to all.

I’m inspired by our collaborative process that brings together architects, engineers, planners, and other specialists, as well as our clients. Designing in concert, we’re able to draw on our collective intelligence to create buildings that live in harmony with their environments.

A driving force behind SOM’s growth in India, Peter has designed numerous projects in the country, including the Carmichael Residences and the Godrej BKC commercial building, both in Mumbai. His work across the country reflects a deep respect for regional building traditions and is shaped by close, ongoing collaboration with clients. He has also designed major projects across the Asia-Pacific region, including developments in Vietnam, Japan, and Korea.

Within the firm, Peter guides the organizational and cultural development of SOM’s teams, leading mentorship and training initiatives in the New York studio to engage and inspire the next generation of designers.
