SOM’s designs for the New Covent Garden Market Master Plan? and Lexicon have been named to the shortlist for the 2017 New London Awards. Supported by the Mayor of London and organized by New London Architecture,?? an organization dedicated to supporting positive growth in the city, the awards program recognizes “the very best new and proposed architecture, planning, and development in the capital” across 15 categories.?
The New Covent Garden Market Master Plan? was nominated in the Masterplans & Area Strategies category. The plan for the redevelopment of London’s wholesale fruit and vegetable market is the core element in revitalizing a key “Opportunity Area” identified in the London Plan for strategic economic growth. Lexicon, a mixed-use project on the west side of London’s City Road Basin, was nominated? in the Housing category.? Each of the development’s three buildings is designed to have individual identities linked by a shared palette of materials and detailing.?
The award winners will be selected by an international jury. Additionally, all nominees are eligible for the People’s Choice Award, which will be decided by a public vote. The winners will be announced at the New London Architecture annual lunch on Wednesday, July 5th.??
