SOM’s Instagram Account Wins Award from SMPS New York

SOM has won a social media award from the New York chapter of the Society for Marketing Professional Services (SMPS-NY). The organization’s 2015 Marketing Communications Awards program has recognized the firm’s Instagram account, @skidmoreowingsmerrill, as the winner of the social media category. Award winners will be honored at private ceremony in New York City in June 2015.

SOM’s social media presence is modeled on the firm’s design ethos of simplicity and clarity. The firm’s voice reflects not only its design principles, but also the caliber of its work. The SOM Digital Media team sought to communicate the same design ethos and voice through a popular and visually-oriented platform, Instagram. Since June 2014, SOM has developed a design-minded Instagram community of more than 5,500 followers. In addition to delivering original content, SOM engaged with its Instagram community to launch its first ever photo contest in celebration of the opening of One World Trade Center.

SMPS-NY’s Marketing Communications Awards recognize excellence in the profession and the outstanding achievements of top marketing professionals. Awards are granted to architecture, engineering, and/or construction firms whose materials and campaigns most compellingly achieve their marketing goals. Established in 1984, the New York chapter has more than 250 members who collectively represent more than 220 firms, making it one of the largest SMPS chapters in the United States.
