New leadership supports the firm’s expanding portfolio of complex healthcare, research and education environments worldwide.
SOM has welcomed Randy Guillot, FAIA, LEED AP, as Director of Healthcare Design. An accomplished design leader, Guillot will be based in Chicago and collaborate with teams across the firm’s global studios.
“This is a pivotal moment for SOM’s healthcare practice, as we work with leading institutions to realize some of the most innovative healthcare environments we have designed to date,” said Healthcare Practice Leader Anthony Treu. “Randy brings exceptional depth of experience and a proven ability to translate complex healthcare challenges into compelling design solutions. His leadership will be instrumental as we continue to expand our practice and deliver transformative environments for our clients and communities.”
SOM’s healthcare practice has grown through decades of partnerships with leading institutions at the forefront of care, research, and discovery. Its portfolio includes work with Cleveland Clinic, Mount Sinai, and Memorial Sloan Kettering, as well as the award-winning Winship Cancer Institute at Emory Midtown in Atlanta. Today, the firm is advancing major healthcare projects across the country, including the recently announced UT Dell Medical Center in Austin, Texas—a new 27-acre academic medical campus at the University of Texas.
Guillot joins SOM with more than 30 years of experience leading design across healthcare, life sciences, higher education, and workplace sectors. Most recently a Design Principal and co-Global Healthcare Practice Leader at Gensler, he oversaw the growth, design quality, and strategic direction of its healthcare practice. Known for delivering programmatically complex and contextually driven projects, Guillot has led major academic medical centers, outpatient facilities, research environments, and university projects across the United States and internationally. His portfolio includes award-winning projects such as the OhioHealth Neuroscience Wellness Center, the Nationwide Children’s Hospital Simulation, Data, and Conference Center, and most recently, The University of Texas at Tyler School of Medicine. A Fellow of the American Institute of Architects, Guillot is also an active mentor and thought leader, contributing to the Urban Land Institute’s Healthcare and Life Sciences Council and academic programs nationwide.
“Randy brings refined design sensibilities to one of architecture’s most technically demanding building types,” said Design Partner Ryan Culligan. “In our conversations, we found a natural alignment in our approach to design, and we’re excited for the perspective and energy he will bring to our studio.” In his role as Director of Healthcare Design, Guillot will help lead design strategy across SOM’s global studios, supporting the continued growth of the practice and advancing innovative solutions for emerging models of care.
