SOM has delivered the Strategic Vision Plan for the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) 2027 summit in Phu Quoc, Vietnam, which includes the design of an iconic building complex for the prominent event.
The plan spans nearly 78 hectares and reimagines the southern coastline of Phu Quoc as an integrated civic and cultural destination, including significant areas of public space. At the heart of the plan is APEC Boulevard—a ceremonial arrival experience and future mobility spine—welcoming delegates and visitors with lush streetscapes, flexible civic spaces, and transit-ready design.

Anchored by the centrally located APEC Park, the vision plan offers a signature outdoor venue that can host performances, exhibitions, and community events—both during and long after the summit.
More than 2 kilometers of new public waterfront will feature a mix of promenades, plazas, and terraces, lined with diverse food, retail, and cultural venues designed to support Phu Quoc’s economy and enrich life for locals and visitors alike.
Designed with resilience and legacy in mind, the plan supports long-term urban, economic, and environmental goals that will benefit the region well beyond the summit.
As Vietnam prepares to host APEC for the third time, significant developments are underway in Phu Quoc, the chosen venue for this prestigious event. The APEC Multifunctional Complex, designed to accommodate nearly 15,000 attendees, will serve as a central hub for high-level discussions among leaders from 21 member economies.

SOM’s expertise plays a crucial role in shaping this complex, which features:
- a state-of-the-art conference and exhibition center;
- a multi-purpose arena for cultural and artistic performances; and
- mixed-use landmark tower surrounded by new public waterfront and retail destinations.
The complex is designed not only to facilitate the APEC summit, but also to foster Phu Quoc’s long-term tourism and economic growth. With a seating capacity for thousands, the venue aims to attract global attention and provide a lasting impact on the region.
Investment in transportation infrastructure, including upgrades to Phu Quoc International Airport and An Thoi International Port, is also being prioritized to ensure seamless access for delegates and visitors. The planned expansions will bolster the island’s capabilities, welcoming the world’s largest cruise ships and enhancing air travel efficiency.

Chairman of the Board at Sun Group, Dang Minh Truong, emphasized, “APEC 2027 will be a major milestone, driving Phu Quoc’s emergence as a leading tourism and economic hub.”
SOM’s delivery of the Strategic Vision Plan marks a significant step toward achieving the ambitious goals set for APEC 2027, ensuring that Phu Quoc not only meets but exceeds expectations for this landmark event.
