On Thursday, July 10, SOM Managing Partner Larry Chien will share insights into the next wave of urban transformation in Jakarta at the regional 2025 Council on Tall Buildings and the Urban Habitat (CTBUH) Conference in Indonesia. Delivered in partnership with CTBUH leaders in Jakarta, this conference, “Building Resilient Urban Futures: Innovations in Tall Building Design,” will host leading architects, engineers, urban planners, policymakers, and industry experts to explore the evolving paradigms of vertical urbanism.
Larry will join the five-person panel, “Resilient Urban Futures in Indonesia,” and offer a snapshot of SOM’s ongoing work shaping people-friendly urban environments across Asia. This will build upon the newly published paper “Toward a People-First Jakarta”—a continuation of our recent presentation held at the ARCH:ID 2025 Conference in Tangerang—and Urban Sequoia, a research concept for carbon-absorbing high-rise buildings that radically rethinks how cities can be designed and constructed.
