On January 30th, 2020, Managing Partner Kenneth A. Lewis will speak on a panel discussion, hosted by FirstService Residential, about the Climate Mobilization Act. The panel will focus on the practical implications of the act, which was passed by the New York City Council in 2019, for building owners and developers.

The Milstein Center at Barnard College has been selected as a finalist in South by Southwest's Learn by Design competition, an international program that recognizes groundbreaking work in education design. On March 10th, 2019, SOM and Barnard will compete in a live pitch event against other finalists to be named the 2020 winner.
On January 7th, 2020, SOM will host a discussion at the Center for Architecture in New York City to mark the release of Gordon Bunshaft and SOM: Building Corporate Modernism. Together with Mary McLeod, Francesco Dal Co, Colin Koop, and Alexandra Lange, author Nicholas Adams will discuss Bunshaft, his work, and his legacy.
The Gingerbread City features the confectionary contributions of SOM and other leading architects in the UK. This annual exhibition and fundraiser is on view through January 5th, 2020.
Glocal Design Magazine honored two SOM projects with the Noldi Schreck Award, recognizing the best design projects in Mexico each year. The honorees—including a sculptural pavilion and a sustainable office development—were announced at an event in Mexico City.

Fargo Block 9 has topped out, becoming the tallest building in downtown Fargo. The 18-story mixed use building respects Fargo’s urban heritage and scale, while introducing contemporary elements and community spaces to the historic streetscape.

On October 26th, 2019, SOM’s San Francisco office joined local architects, contractors, and engineers at Ocean Beach for the 37th annual Sandcastle Classic, which benefits LEAP Arts in Education. SOM’s team was awarded “Best in Show Gold,” Best Student Participation, and Best Video Game Reference, as part of this year’s theme—“Let’s Play!”
