Wider Platforms, Elevators Coming to a Redesigned State/Lake CTA ‘L’ Station in Chicago’s Loop

The busy downtown State and Lake CTA “L” station is getting a redesign that will include wider platforms, elevators and a large canopy covering the station.

The station is expected to close for three years during construction, though no start date has been set. The tracks are set to remain in service, said Mike Claffey, Chicago Department of Transportation spokesman.

The new station, designed by Skidmore, Owings and Merrill and TranSystems, will include some salvaged original features, such as the posts and railings framing vending and customer service kiosks.
