SOM to Participate in Advancing Computational Building Design 2018

On Tuesday, July 24th, three representatives from SOM will participate in Advancing Computational Building Design 2018. The event, which is now in its second year, aims to share best practices and innovations in computational-based design.

SOM senior digital design specialist Stephanie Tabb will speak on a panel titled “Hearing How Designers Are Finding the Time to Develop Computation Tools and Ensuring the Time Savings Are Greater Than the Investment.” She will join three other digital design leaders and specialists to discuss topics including task automation, the design of computational tools, and the process for identifying effective tools. SOM senior architectural designer Daniel Inocente will moderate the panel.

On the same day, Inocente and architectural computational designer Dennis Goff will speak on a panel titled “Considering the Impact of Computational Design at the Conceptual, Engineering, and Construction Phases to Maximize Its Added Value.” The two will discuss methods for solving interoperability challenges, initiating intelligent data exchange, and using computational modeling techniques. Using Guiyang World Trade Center as a case study, they will examine solutions for integrating design geometry, engineering, enclosure systems, and delivery mechanisms throughout each phase of building.
