On Friday, September 22nd, representatives from SOM’s San Francisco office will lead a walking tour in conjunction with the 14th Annual Architecture + the City Festival. The tour centers on SOM-designed projects that reflect the theme of this year’s festival, “Secret City.”
The Architecture + the City Festival, presented by AIA San Francisco and the Center for Architecture + Design, takes place every September. The month-long celebration of architecture and design in the city features film screenings, various tours, exhibitions, and lectures. The event brings together leading minds and practitioners and offers opportunities for the public to engage with the local architecture community.
This year’s festival theme, “Secret City,” highlights the many layers of historic San Francisco and explores how architecture and design impact the ever-changing landscape of the city. Programs are designed to provide participants with opportunities to understand the city’s past, connect to the present urban fabric, and help create a livable future.
All stops on the SOM-led tour—One Maritime Plaza (formerly the Alcoa Building); 350 Mission; One Bush Plaza (formerly Crown Zellerbach Headquarters); and 345 California Street—are in or near the city’s Financial District. Short presentations will be given at each stop to provide background on the projects as well as to share anecdotes and design insights. Light refreshments will be served during the tour.
