On Wednesday, June 5th, SOM and Arquine magazine will host a panel discussion on collaborations in architecture and engineering to celebrate “SOM: Arte + Ingeniería + Arquitectura,” an exhibition presented at the historic Antiguo Colegio de San Ildefonso in Mexico City. The exhibition is presented in partnership with MEXTRÓPOLI, a global festival of architecture and urbanism hosted by Arquine, Mexico’s preeminent design and architecture magazine.
The panel discussion centers on the unique process of collaboration between architects and engineers—a subject that is depicted through models, drawings, and ephemera in the exhibition. Composed of leading architects and SOM engineers, the panel will discuss how interdisciplinary collaborations can inform new ideas for architectural projects. The panel will highlight the ways in which engineers and architects alike practice a poetry of inquiry, experimentation, and ingenuity.
The panel will be moderated by Miquel Adrià, Director of Arquine. Panelists include SOM Structural Engineering Partner William F. Baker, Design Director Javier Arizmendi, and renowned architect Tatiana Bilbao.
