River Edge Ideas Lab Traveling Exhibition Opens at Chicago Library

The Chicago River Edge Ideas Lab’s traveling exhibition has landed in the SOM-designed Chinatown Branch ?of the Chicago Public Library and will be on view through Monday, December 11th. The exhibition ?showcases ideas proposed for the River Edge Ideas Lab, an initiative to provide a vision for a unified aesthetic along Chicago’s riverfront?.

During the 2017 Chicago Architecture Biennial, the exhibition is traveling to public venues in different Chicago neighborhoods every two weeks. The goal of taking the show on the road is to engage Chicagoans from across the city? and encourage participation in the initiative to shape the future of public space along the Chicago River. The traveling exhibition runs parallel to the main exhibition, which remains on display at the Expo 72 Gallery through the end of the Biennial. The River Edge Ideas Lab was launched in 2017 by the City of Chicago’s Department of Planning and Development in collaboration with the Metropolitan Planning Council. ?SOM and eight other design firms with experience in developing riverfronts, parks, and public spaces were invited to participate. ?SOM’s vision proposes the introduction of ecologically focused infrastructure in order to support a healthier river and create a destination for residents and visitors.
