On October 14th, Alessandro Beghini, Associate Director of Structural Engineering, will give a presentation titled "The Engineering of Art and Architecture" as part of Melbourne School of Design's MSD at Home lecture series. Beghini will discuss the structural and technological innovations that drive the creation of new art and architecture.
Two SOM projects, 100 Mount Street and Dream Catcher, have received Best Project Awards from the Structural Engineers Association of Illinois (SEAOI). The projects were announced at the SEAOI Annual Awards Banquet in July.
Sunset La Cienega Hotel is featured in the Spring 2020 issue of AN Interior magazine. The two-tower boutique hotel, located on the iconic Sunset Strip in West Hollywood, was designed in conjunction with the neighboring Sunset La Cienega Residences.
Three chapters of the Structural Engineers Association—in Illinois (SEAOI), New York (SEAoNY) and Northern California (SEAONC)—presented SOM with awards that recognize outstanding achievement and innovation in structural engineering.
Janet Echelman's sculpture"Dream Catcher" has been honored in the 2018 CODAawards, which recognize outstanding collaborations between architects and artists. SOM worked with Echelman to create the large-scale net sculpture, suspended above a public plaza at The Jeremy Hotel in Los Angeles, California.
TED Ideas spotlights sculptor Janet Echelman. SOM collaborated with Echelman on "Dream Catcher," an installation at The Jeremy Hotel in California, and a test study of the sculpture created for SOM's traveling exhibition on the intersection of art, engineering, and architecture.
On May 24th, 2018, SOM architects will lead a tour of The Jeremy Hotel in West Hollywood, California for the American Institute of Architects and the public. The boutique hotel, located on the iconic Sunset Strip, includes an exterior art installation by Janet Echelman.
