The Strand Theater has been honored with awards from the Society for Experimental Graphic Design and the California Heritage Council. SOM's renovation of the theater resurrected a century-old movie house to provide a performance space for the American Conservatory Theater.

SOM Renovation of The Strand Theater Wins Prestigious Urban Land Institute Award of Excellence
SOM's renovation of The Strand has won an Urban Land Institute 2016 Global Award for Excellence. The project resurrects a 100-year-old movie theater to provide a highly visible and experimental performance space for the San Francisco's preeminent theater company, the American Conservatory Theater.
The Structural Engineers Association of Northern California honored three SOM projects with 2016 Excellence in Structural Engineering Awards. The winners include the LAX Central Terminal Area Pedestrian Bridge Prototype Study; The Strand, American Conservatory Theater; and 350 Mission Street.
Fast Company's 2016 Innovation by Design Awards, which honor innovative projects around the world, have recognized three SOM projects: AMIE 1.0, The Kathleen Grimm School for Leadership and Sustainability at Sandy Ground, and The Strand, American Conservatory Theater.
The American Institute of Architects, California Council (AIACC) announced the winners of its 2016 Design Awards, which recognizes innovative design by California-based architects. SOM's The Strand and Poly International Plaza were both honored in the Architecture category.
Architect Magazine's 2016 AIA Awards Issue includes a profile on The Strand, which received a National AIA Honor Award for Interiors. SOM renovated this historic movie theater on Market Street in San Francisco to create an experimental performance space for American Conservatory Theater (A.C.T.).
