One Manhattan West has received a merit award in the 2020 AIA New York Chapter Design Awards. The award program recognizes outstanding design by AIA New York members. The building—a 67-story, 2.1-million-square-foot office tower located on the corner of Ninth Avenue and 33rd Street in New York City—was honored in the architecture category along with 12 other projects.
Designing One Manhattan West required an intricate synthesis of design and structural engineering to navigate active railroad tracks below while expressing an elegant simplicity above. The building is characterized by a gentle, minimalist massing and, at 996 feet, it is the development’s tallest. The project transforms the public realm with a large plaza—a space that is extended by a highly transparent lobby designed to serve as a physical and visual continuation between city blocks.
