Nicholas Holt to give Keynote Address at Building Envelope Workshop

On May 18, 2015, SOM Technical Director Nicholas Holt will give the keynote address “A Return to Performance” at the U.S. Department of Energy’s Envelope Stakeholder Workshop. The talk will focus on new developments in building-envelope technology, and propose that future high-performance buildings will integrate complex systems with responses to site and climate inspired by vernacular architecture.

To illustrate his argument, Holt will highlight several SOM projects that were designed with exceptionally high-performing envelopes and building systems. They include the recently completed Baccarat Hotel & Residences, P.S. 62, Pearl River Tower, and the United States Air Force Academy’s Center for Character and Leadership Development.

Oak Ridge National Laboratory is hosting the two-day workshop on behalf of the Department of Energy’s Building Technologies Office. The event will bring together architects, engineers, Department of Energy leaders, and other experts for a series of panels, discussions, and presentations on topics related to building enclosures.
