Julie Hiromoto Chosen to Serve on Nathaniel A. Owings Award for Environmental Excellence Jury

SOM Associate Julie Hiromoto will serve on the 2014 jury for the Nathaniel A. Owings Award for Environmental Excellence. The program, which is sponsored by the California Architectural Foundation, recognizes built projects that demonstrate exceptional environmental sensitivity and make a positive contribution to the broader community.

According to the awards program, winning projects “tell a collaborative story of risk-taking a creative thinking that assessed the needs of the community and explored new territory with its integration of built structures and natural systems.” The award is given in honor of SOM founding partner Nathaniel A. Owings, who once said that architecture should exist “in cooperation with nature — not against it.”

Hiromoto is an active member of New York City’s architecture and green building community and brings more than ten years of experience leading sustainable design initiatives at SOM to the jury.
