On May 19, 2015, Joan Suchomel, SOM Director and Senior Medical Planner, will speak at the Cleveland Clinic Patient Experience: Empathy + Innovation Summit. Her 90-minute panel, titled “The Inpatient Unit: Design Strategies to Enhance the Patient Experience,” will explore how improving hospital functionality and aesthetics can effect more positive experiences for patients, staff, and visitors. Suchomel will be joined by fellow experts that include the Cleveland Clinic’s director of planning and design Joseph Strauss, as well as Kimberly Pickens, divisional director of nursing at The Christ Hospital. SOM’s design of The Christ Hospital in Cincinnati will serve as a case study of high-quality healthcare design.
