Introducing The Gateway, Dubai Creek Harbour Iconic Metro Station

The Gateway

A luminous new landmark coming to Dubai’s skyline, The Gateway redefines the metro station as both a state-of-the-art transit hub and a vibrant civic destination at the heart of Dubai Creek Harbour. Rising 74 meters tall and 10,800-square-meters, it’s set to become the tallest metro station in the world and will serve up to 160,000 daily commuters by 2040 in support of the national Dubai 2040 Urban Master Plan. Designed by SOM for the Dubai Metro’s new Blue Line, the project meets the demands of a growing city while enhancing everyday mobility.

Inspired by the historic waterway of Dubai Creek, the station features a mirrored set of walls with staggering heights, evoking the rhythm of traditional waterfront architecture. Sunlight dances across the facade’s jura limestone cladding, creating a dynamic interplay of light and shadow throughout the day.

The station is organized across three primary levels—ground, concourse, and platform—and each is designed to support an intuitive commuter experience with seamless connectivity, ample natural light, and retail amenities. At the ground level, a welcoming public plaza integrates lush landscaping with cultural and recreational amenities, fostering community engagement and enriching the public realm.

The Gateway reflects Dubai’s vision for a more connected, resilient, and sustainable future. Its design incorporates passive environmental strategies, high-performance materials, and efficient transit operations to support long-term urban and climate goals.
