On Tuesday, September 26th, Gunnar Hand from SOM’s Los Angeles office spoke at the American Planning Association (APA) California Chapter’s annual conference in Sacramento, California. Hand’s presentation was part of a workshop titled “Designing Housing Solutions,” which focused on the topic of California’s lack of affordable housing. The workshop brought together professionals to design and prototype diverse types of housing, such as co-housing, farm worker housing, artist housing, garage conversions, and senior housing.
Every year, APA California’s statewide conference provides educational and networking opportunities for its members. The theme of this year’s conference was “Capitalizing on Diversity.” The event included presentations and sessions on topics such as global climate change, green communities, the annual APA California Awards Ceremony, and the California Planning Foundation Auction to fund scholarships for planning students.
