In the latest issue of Great Lakes by Design magazine, Design Partner Scott Duncan shares the story behind Mulva Cultural Center—a transformative new destination for arts, education, and civic life in De Pere, Wisconsin. Commissioned by local philanthropists James and Miriam Mulva, the 73,800-square-foot institution is envisioned as a lasting gift to their hometown.
“It is rare to see individuals who want to give back to their community in such a public and meaningful way,” said Scott Duncan on SOM’s collaboration with the Mulvas. “Their mission was to bring world-class cultural experiences to De Pere, Wisconsin. From the start, we saw their vision as a unique opportunity to create something truly meaningful.”
Inspired by visits to some of the world’s top museums, the Mulvas sought to elevate the cultural landscape of De Pere. Overlooking the Fox River, the Center’s two-story glass atrium serves as a civic “living room”—a transparent, welcoming space open to all.
