On July 22, 2015, Ellen Lou, SOM Director of Urban Design and Planning, and Lucy Ling, SOM Associate Director, will give a lecture at China’s Tenth Annual Conference on Urban Development and Planning. There, Lou and Ling will discuss how urban design can balance socioeconomic development with healthy ecological objectives, highlighting SOM’s Baietan Urban Design Master Plan as a case study.
This year’s conference is focused on China’s recent reforms that push toward slower, more sustainable economic and urban growth, including the 2015 Five-Year Plan, the 2013 Smart City Pilot Program, and the 2013 One Belt, One Road Initiative. The event is organized by the Chinese Society of Urban Studies and the People’s Government of Guangzhou Municipality, and it is supported by the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development, as well as P.R. China.
